General information:
Christians are a minority on Laratoa, and tend to form their own social subgroup, associating primarily with other Christians.
The center of Christian life is the church, from which the priest provides for one's spiritual needs. The priest, who is addressed as `father', holds mass each day. Most Christians attend mass at least every Sunday. Priests are available to hear confessions every morning before mass, and sometimes at other times.
Most major cities have a cathedral, from which a bishop administers the diocese. Above bishops are archbishops and primates. The bishop of Rome, also known as the pope, is the representative of the Lord.
People who are particularly active in religion frequently enter the lay orders, and sometimes become priests. Such people are often referred to as `clerics'. Those who enter the lay orders must take vows against causing bloodshed, and are encouraged to learn the healing arts. Specialized skills used to directly combat the agents of evil are also taught in higher orders, some of which require additional vows.
Unlike warriors, who spend nearly all their time in physical activity, and magicians, who must constantly study magic, those in religious orders dedicate varying amounts of their time to the church. Those that spend too much of their time on secular activities, however, sometimes find their spiritual powers diminished.
Abbreviations used are defined in the glossary.
Some cleric skills require physical aids. These are specified in the individual skill descriptions.
Skill descriptions:
Clerical skills are specialized, and clerics can generally only use one of these skills over the course of a day.
Physician skills are also available to Clerics:
Clerics cannot generally use clerical skills and physician skills in the same day.
