Turbo Trans Am Engine
1989 Turbo Trans Am Engine Compartment
In the top half of the picture, the coolant reservoir is
on the far left, and the windshield washer reservoir on
the far right. The shiny, small upright cylinder at the
top left is part of the air conditioner, and you can see
the rectangular top of the brake fluid reservoir at the
top right. At the middle left is the turbocharger - or
rather, the turbocharger's heat shield, because the turbo
is the hottest part of the engine. The compressed intake
air from the turbocharger goes down out of sight to the
intercooler, and returns via the metal pipe in the middle
of the picture to the intake plenum at the top of the
engine. To the right of the pipe you can see the starter
motor, below which is the intake duct which runs from the
air filter on the right to the turbocharger on the left.

At the bottom of the picture you can see the Trans Am
(20th Anniversary) hood emblem, flanked by the signal
lights to the right and left. Beyond the signal lights,
you can see the inside edges of the headlight covers.
